TE WHĀNAU ĀIO

WHO WE ARE

Te Whānau Āio are the kaitiaki (guardians) who hold the Maori Cultural experiences at the Auckland Museum.

The group span across 14 different iwi (tribes) from within New Zealand. As direct guardians of their family ancestries their collective duty is to share their grandparents stories to better educate the world, away from the stereotypes of 'rugby haka' or 'simply a ball on the end of a string' requirements projected onto Māori.

The group consist of professionals who are masters in their form who have travelled the globe as experts, judges, dancers, cultural educators, lecturers, professional singers, spiritual tutors, indigenous spokesmen, language facilitators and much more.

Not to be mistaken for entertainment
